Gossip Girl (2007) Rewatch- S 6 Pt 1

Happy #GGThursday!! We’re finally on the last season!! Ready to rewatch with us? Grab a snack and settle in!

But first,

2. Spoilers abound. Read at your own risk.

Episode 1- Gone Maybe Gone

“Maybe you can translate for me. Do you speak unstable psychopath?”

Random thoughts

  • I just love these dramatic season openings! The music? The tension? The scandal? BRILLIANT!
  • Chuck and Blair’s chemistry is insane. I can feel it through the screen!

I get that limos are supposed to signify class and luxury in a show like this, but they are also notoriously easy to identify, which is how Georgina knew to follow Chuck and company in the first place.

Rufus is old enough to be Ivy’s father. I get that this crew loves a good age gap in a romantic relationship, but this is just downright egregious. Add in the fact that Ivy is using him to get revenge on Lily, and it makes Rufus that much more annoying for being ignorant.

Episode 2- High Infidelity

“My “friends” chased my sister out of town and chose a guy who sold her for a hotel over me. My “family” is sleeping with a con artist, so no, I’m not losing anything. I’m taking back what’s mine.”

Random thoughts

  • I love Dorota and Blair’s relationship. B’s reaction to the redecorated atelier shows how well Dorota knows her after all these years.

I don’t know what secret Bart is keeping, but there’s no way he thought Lily would believe that he was paying someone off to keep them quiet about their affair. Bart was known for his escapades — that’s certainly not worth $10 million. On a similar note, why didn’t Chuck think that Bart had an affair with Amira? She’s a beautiful, exotic woman. She sounds like she’d be right up Bart’s alley.

Episode 3- Dirty Rotten Scandals

“Dan might have been an innocent Brooklyn Boy once but when you weren’t looking, he became as ruthless as any Park Avenue Prince.”

Random thoughts

  • Has Chuck had this haircut since the beginning of the season?

Can you blame Dan for his insistence on airing out the dirty laundry of the UES? Let’s see: his high school crush manipulates him into cheating on his girlfriend (who just so happens to be said former crush’s best friend) with her, only for that very girlfriend to break up with him for another man. If that’s not reason to exact revenge, I don’t know what is.

I’m not sure whose side I’m on: Blair’s or Serena’s. On the one hand, Serena was reeling from being rejected by the love of her life. After Blair kicked her out of her house, she fell down a toxic spiral. Once she had a chance at a fresh start, she didn’t want anything, including Blair, to get in the way of that. However, cutting off your best friend since childhood is pretty harsh, especially given how much Blair has grown over the years.

Episode 4- Portrait of a Lady Alexander

“Okay, listen, Princess Jasmine. The fact is, your “Uncle Bart” is bad. I’m sure every horse he bought from your family went straight to the glue factory, including your beloved Lady Alexander.”

Random thoughts

  • I’m not sure why Steven is shocked that Serena has history with Nate. They grew up together, for crying out loud.
  • Lily is right, Chuck wouldn’t dare slander her name on Gossip Girl. He has too much respect for his adoptive mother. His father, on the other hand…

We are supposed to side with the NJBC and be disgusted at Dan’s sudden change in demeanor, but it’s tough to do that when the entire world he tried so hard to get into never truly cared about him, at least not for long. There’s only so much of being slighted one can take.

Serena is better than me: I simply wouldn’t be able to handle having my boyfriend’s daughter date my ex, much less knowing that my boyfriend has slept with my mother. They threw every curve ball they could into this final season, I tell you.

Episode 5- Monstrous Ball

“I thought Chuck sleeping with Jenny was the most despicable thing someone could do to me but this is worse because you pretended to be better. At least I ended up with the right person.”

Random thoughts

  • I’ve said it before, but I would have been really interested to see Chuck continue to uncover his family’s secrets in his own spinoff.
  • I can’t lie, I love this side of Dan. If you can’t beat em, join em.
  • Did Ivy have that fake story on hand in case Bart showed up or did she come up with it on the fly? Either way, she’s one heck of an actress.
  • Whether Lily was lying or not, I don’t like how Bart grabbed her arm in frustration.
  • They really loved Frank Ocean on this episode. Every song played was one of his.

I don’t recall Dan and Georgina spending so much time together in season 6. She clearly recognizes his talent as a writer though or she wouldn’t be investing so much time into working with him.

It’s easy to forget about Serena and Dan’s affair while he was with Blair. That could have a lot to do with why S wanted a new life without B, guilt from her past transgressions. However, what’s done in the dark will eventually come to the light.

There are only 5 (yes, you read that right) episodes left for us to review! What are your favorite season 6 moments so far? Let us know in the comments!
